Your Portal Version: 0.2.1
Your phpBB Type: Standard phpBB3
MODs installed: Yes
Your knowledge: Basic Knowledge
Boardlink: http://www.catchfencephotos.net/portal.php

What have you done before the problem was there?
Not upgraded

What have you already tryed to solve the problem?
Upgraded on my test system to PHPBB3 V3.0.1

Description and Message
Hi all,

I have been a bit slack and haven't upgraded either the versions of PHPBB3 (currently V3.0.0) or Board3 Portal (currently V0.2.1) since the final work I did in March last year. I have now started the process of testing the upgrades on my offline board, but this hasn't worked as required. Firstly I have upgraded my phpbb3 install to 3.0.1, but this broke the portal. Before I proceed and get myself in a big mess, I would like to work up an upgrade plan that will ensure that all components work correctly.

Should I
  • Upgrade the Portal first to the latest version, then upgrade phpbb3 to V3.0.1 then the subsequent upgrades to the latest version
  • Upgrade the board first then the portal
  • Uninstall the portal, upgrade the board and then re-install the latest version of the portal
  • something else
If anyone can give me a basic outline of the best upgrade path, it would be appreciated

Cheers[/i]

I'd update your phpBB to version 3.0.4 (!) first. (why 3.0.1??)
Afterwards i'd go through the install instructions for the portal version 1.0.2 and see what is missing / changed in the phpBB core files.
You can use the update_board3portal_021.xml but i'd use the install.xml to make sure that nothing has been deleted during the automatic phpBB update. That happens sometimes in certain circumstances.

Why 3.0.1? Using the update packages (as opposed to the install packages), I need to go to 3.0.1 => 3.0.2 => 3.0.4. A little convoluted but managable.

Thanks for that. I will run it on my test bed first and see how we go

Cheers

If you download the 3.0.4 update package it contains a zip to upgrade from 3.0.1 -> 3.0.4.
