Recent Block code change help.
Hi again guys,
I wasn't sure where to post this so please move it if it needs to be.
I'm learning more about the code as I make my new style but I'm still a beginner with this. (I can program CNC machines and Robots but this is confusing )
I would like to slightly edit the "Recent Block" in the portal to display "latest Anouncments, latest topics, and latest reply (instead of latest hot topic). I find that "latest hot topic" isn't very useful to me as if it's "HOT" it usually has a reply anyway.
When I searched, I did see a topic on this for subsilver2 but I'm using prosilver.
Also, how would I change the font size in the Recent block. I've had complaints by my testers that it's a little too small.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

In the next version the <small> tags will be removed (mod validation).
Isn't it nearly what the "Recent topic" does? And exactly what you get with the "latest news" block?OBeer-WAN-Kenobi wrote:latest reply (instead of latest hot topic)

That's cool! What brand of machine tools do you use over there and what controls? As far as robots I've only worked with ABB.Kevin wrote: Hey - we are doing the same job!

No, not in my opinion. On the board I'm working on there are long term running threads that get bumped off the list even though they get replys almost every day. A picture thread for users to post photos for example. The latest news block works this way; however, I don't want all the latest replys in there. I only want to use that for actual news. In fact, I don't like that a reply bumps the latest news up. THAT's latest reply, not latest news. You could get a reply on a post that's two years old that would suddenly show up in Latest news. I think I saw a thread on this latest news bumping thing somewhere on this forum and if there is a mod for it I will change it.Kevin wrote:Isn't it nearly what the "Recent topic" does? I guess if I was posting this as a request for the next release I would request that:
1. Recent popular topic is changed to Recent Reply. (after all, if the topic is popular, it'll have a reply anyway)
2. A reply does not bump news in latest news. ETA: I found the thread: viewtopic.php?style=3&f=10&t=678 and I see you are putting it in as an option in the next release. Good idea!
These are the only things I have any issue with. Everything else is excellent!
So, I would greatly appreciate the code for this if you guys have the time.
Thanks again!

*off Topic*
For OBeer-WAN-Kenobi a short message:
I'am also a "Veteran" in CNC programming. I have doing this a long time, but after the Year 2003 i have to take another Job.
*Topic on*
And back to Topic.

I was wondering why I could not understand your post... Then I saw the problem! You didn't use proper BBcode! [off topic][/off topic] LOL
Seriously though, I personally am not a fan of Siemens controls and I've never used Heidenhain or Maho. I'm a FANUC man myself, though that's probably understandable being from the U.S. We have about 25 machines with FANUC controls, One Emco-Maier with a Siemens, a few Hitachi Seiki's with Hitachi controls and quite a few MAZAKs. I don't like the MAZAKs though as I don't have much of a taste for conversational controls.... I'd rather use G-Code and Macro.
Now, back to my problem. Am I on my own or would you guys give me a hand?
Thanks again!

Re: Recent Block code change help.
As i have a lag of time, i could not offer you a "ready to use" solution. We'll concentrate on the next RC.OBeer-WAN-Kenobi wrote:Now, back to my problem. Am I on my own or would you guys give me a hand?
What you have to do, to get a solution, is modifying the SQL section of the "// Recent hot topics" to get the "topic_last_post_id" and build the link with it.
I've learned turner (and IT specialist later) and worked first with CNC turning machines, like traub TNS 65D and several others (e.g Maho) directly in the G-Code. Right now i'm programming milling machines for Airbus with Catia V5, older programs with NCL and simulating with Vericut V5/6. Big and small parts (right now i'm programming a 7.5 meter part for the A380 wing). Constructing parts, fixtures and drawings too.OBeer-WAN-Kenobi wrote:Seriously though, I personally am not a fan of Siemens controls and I've never used Heidenhain or Maho. There are several machines we create programs for: Ecospeed, Torres, ACM (big), ACM-F, FPV, DMU70e, L66, L66 large, A88, LPZ, etc.

OK, I understand. I will try to mess around and get this to work by myself. If I figure it out I will post my solution here and you guys can decide if I did something stupid or not.Kevin wrote:As i have a lag of time, i could not offer you a "ready to use" solution. I, have programmed turning centers, swiss style screw machines, milling machines, sinking and wire EDM's, and others but mostly use straight G-Code or Macro. I did use mastercam and surfcam when I worked on foundry patterns and plastic injection molds. Now I work in a high production environment as a Manufacturing Engineer. I do a lot of tool and fixture design but still need to program from time to time.Kevin wrote:I've learned turner (and IT specialist later) and worked first with CNC turning machines, like traub TNS 65D and several others (e.g Maho) directly in the G-Code. Is Catia integral with Solidworks? We use Solidworks here for our main design program and we are getting in a new swiss screw machine that I don't feel like progamming manually. After I get more than 5 axis to try to remember it gets hard. If Catia is integral with Solidworks and isn't terribly expensive we may be interested.

Re: Recent Block code change help.
I'd say Catia could integrate Solid Works, not other way round (although i have not worked with SW yet).OBeer-WAN-Kenobi wrote:If Catia is integral with Solidworks and isn't terribly expensive we may be interested.
Catia is terribly expensive. I heard of 50.000 €uro a license.
Here some information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CATIA
As an example: the whole A380 was created in Catia V4. It's unbelievable what you can do with this software - it's a monster. The machining section is just a module, you have to buy additional. Like piping, electricity / cable, simulation, and a lot more is offered.
Yar - that could be.OBeer-WAN-Kenobi wrote:After I get more than 5 axis to try to remember it gets hard.
Have you ever thought about NCL? Could be that it's not so expensive and is a good machining tool, a bit more script based - you can write your own useful macros.

Re: Recent Block code change help.
OH! I see! I googled CATIA V5 before my last reply and found this url: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/applica ... m/catiav5/
It said "BS CATIA" and Solidworks is "BS Solidworks" so I assumed they were made by the same company. I'll look into the link you posted.
Thanks!

Re: Recent Block code change help.
Ok, Here is what I came up with for code changes:
open root/portal/block/recent.php
Under //Recent hot topics
Find:
Replace with:
Find:
Replace with:
This seems to be working here: http://thenutgallery.com/phpBB3/portal.php
Is it really as easy as it seems or am I missing something? As I said, it really seems to be working fine!
OK, now I want to change the title from "Recent Popular Topic" to "Recent Reply" and I want to switch positions so that "Recent Topic" is in the middle and the new "Recent reply" is on the right side. Can you give me a heads up on the proper way to do that?
Thanks again!

Find:
Code: Select all
AND topic_replies >=' . $config['hot_threshold'] . '
Code: Select all
AND topic_replies >= 1
Code: Select all
ORDER BY topic_time DESC';
Code: Select all
ORDER BY topic_last_post_time DESC';

No, looks good to me. Glad to see that you found a solution yourself.OBeer-WAN-Kenobi wrote:Is it really as easy as it seems or am I missing something? As I said, it really seems to be working fine!
That could be found in root\language\en\mods\portal.php:OBeer-WAN-Kenobi wrote:OK, now I want to change the title from "Recent Popular Topic" to "Recent Reply"
Code: Select all
