simple topic title block

hi there, i'm after a simple left or right hand block that will display the title and the date of a specific forum

all it is i'm asking seems easy and i also tried editing a mod Kevin made a few days ago >HERE< but that went foobar on me

thats the general idea i'm having. date and time is not required only the date is, also being able to set a limit on how many to display would be great
