1.6 stable or wait 2.0 stable?

I am doing a new site and do not know if it is better to use 1.6 or wait until 2.0 becomes stable.
What do you recommend? When will the stable version 2.0 ready?

What's new in version 2 are important but I do not like to use alpha or beta versions on production sites.
However, if the version 2 comes out in 4 months then I should put the 1.6 and hope that the migration to 2 in the future is simple and fairly painless. If you have to wait 1 or 2 months, then patients will not do the customization 2 times.
