Nothing, just installed the Portal mod.

Not much, I just looked around in various PHP and HTML files.

Description and Message
OK, sorry if I'm putting this in the wrong forum, but on this site's Portal page there's a block titled "Latest Global Announcements", and it has selected topics in there. There's page number links to link to older announcements, and to display them on the same Portal page. I would like to make the Portal page on my site have a single block, set up like your "Latest Global Announcements" block, but automatically linked to a specific sub-forum. I would like this block to display ten topics at a time, with a 500-1000 character limit before inserting a "[ Read More ]" link.

Do I have to set this up in the ACP (I'd imagine so, since I can't find anything in the source files)? I'm not a board admin, but I have FTP access. I'm the best of internet friends with the admin, so how would he go about setting this up? Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions or making strange requests.
