Confusion over install instructions

Your Portal Version: 1.0.4
Your phpBB Type: Standard phpBB3
MODs installed: No
Your knowledge: Basic Knowledge

What have you done before the problem was there?
Not enough apparently

What have you already tryed to solve the problem?
Probably screw it up worse......

Description and Message
Ok I am sure I screwed this up somehow but to be honest I followed every instruction I found,.... even though it seemed as if there were very few.

I am trying to install the subsilver2 version on my board. Initially I changed the breadcrumbs and overall_header files as required......with no change.
Then I copied the required portal folders to the /style/template and style/theme/image folders as it says.

From there I got confused, because there are no further instructions....

I know it shows in the parent portion of the install about copying other files, but that looks like it is for the ProSilver install........
I did copy the files from the root folder to the main folder of my forum directory (I hope that was right)

So I am at a standstill here........

Where do I go?

Do I alter the htaccess files and others listed or is that truly for the prosilver install?

And my other issue is WHERE do I initiate the install package from? there is no link or description of link that tells me what I should trpe into the browser or anything.

It just seems that the install document is very confusing outside of the very good details of the file edits.....

Please give an idiot a hand?

As first you have to follow ALL instructions on install.xml including the edits for prosilver. This is the main guide for the whole portal.
In addition to this guide you can use the contrib/subsilver2.xml... it contains just the edits for subsilver2. ;)

Well I did that after all, I went ahead and did those edits (for all files but Prosilver, I avoided those),....

But it seems I might have done something else retarded...

When it came to the place on my ACP where I wanted the controls for the portal to show up, I changed it to the ACP, it was accident, I noticed it was set for something called MODs at the last mili second.

Is there a file edit I can make to get that back?

Because I can not find the edits for the portal now in the ACP.....

And thanks Mike for answering so fast!

Ok.....

There are several blocks on the portal I do not want listed, and I do not see a location to turn them off in the ACP, is this because I put the portal in the wrong place? I would still like to know how to put it in a MODs tab.....

Run the installer again and click on the Uninstall-Tab. After the portal has been uninstalled, just run the installer again and don't mess up this time. ;)

I am not sure I am clear on something, by placing the portal acess in the ACP instead of a TAB of the ACP, did I limit the number of fucntions I could control?

For instance I do not see where I control functions like the paypal block, or adding extra links to the "links" block.

Where am I supposed to be able to activate those areas from?

Thanks again

I don't know what happens, as I never did something like that before. If you are not able to change the settings of the blocks, it is certainly not working correctly and therefore you should do as I already told you before. Uninstall and re-install the portal.

Are you the only person who can answer questions here?

Because I don't think you understand everything I say, and the classic Microsoft "If it does not work, reinstall it" isn't applicable.

I will state again, CAN change many settings for the portal, to turn ON and OFF many blocks.

BUT there are some blocks mentioned that I do not see where to turn them on or off, like the PAYPAL block, the LINKS block.

Do I have to edit those blocks manually through code, or should I be able to edit them through the ACP?

The Links block works, but I do not see where I am supposed to edit the box to add more links to it.

I do not want to uninstall this, and reinstall it just to find these blocks were never accessible from the ACP to begin with.

Simple YES and NO answers would help me out alot......

OUTSTANDING!

Mine looks nothing like that, I only have the general links....so I am not seeing ALL of the options.

I must reinstall....

Thank you VERY MUCH.
